What to see and do in Valdelosa

Valdelosa
Village
Valdelosa is a municipality in the province of Salamanca with about 386 inhabitants, in the Tierra de Ledesma district, whose territory was reconquered in the 10th century by Ramiro II of León together with Ledesma, Juzbado and Guadramiro. It is cited as Val de la Ossa in the fuero that Ferdinand II of León granted to Ledesma in 1161; the Leonese monarchy later ceded it to the Order of Saint John, within the commandery of Zamayón, from which comes the name of its dehesa of Valencia de la Encomienda. It preserves the Valdelosa cork-oak grove and the San Sebastián church, and celebrates its patronal festivities in honour of this saint on 20 January and of San Roque from 15 to 18 August.

Nature
The municipal district preserves one of the largest cork oak woods in the province, a stand of Quercus suber unusual on the Salamanca peneplain, where the holm oak dominates; cork has been harvested here for generations.
