What to see and do in Palacios del Arzobispo

Palacios del Arzobispo
Village
Palacios del Arzobispo is a municipality of about 141 inhabitants in the Tierra de Ledesma, province of Salamanca, whose name recalls its belonging to the archbishopric of Santiago de Compostela, to which it may have passed in 1140 through a donation by Alfonso VII of León, and which already appeared as owner of the town in a papal charter of 1178. This dependency lasted until the late 16th or early 17th century, when, according to a book of the period, it came under the bishopric of Salamanca; the same document records five hermitages then well preserved within the municipal boundaries. With the creation of the provinces in 1833 it was assigned to Salamanca. It celebrates the feast of Saint John on 24 June, as well as the August festivities of the La Morera cultural association.
