What to see and do in Aldearrodrigo

Aldearrodrigo
Village
Aldearrodrigo is a hamlet of around 143 inhabitants, reconquered by the kings of León after the capture of Ledesma, Juzbado, Guadramiro and Salamanca by Ramiro II in the 10th century, and repopulated under a certain Rodrigo or Rodríguez, from whom it took its name. It is documented on 3 January 1136 as Aldeam de domno Rodríguez, in a grant by Alfonso VII of León to the bishopric of Salamanca; the dispute that later set the dioceses of Salamanca and Zamora against each other over its possession was resolved in favour of the former in 1185. The village's landscape, in the Tierra de Ledesma, is marked by the valley of the Rivera de Cañedo, whose breadth suggests it was once a larger watercourse; its reed beds shelter birds such as the little crake and the water rail. In the mid-19th century it had 165 inhabitants, more than today.
