What to see and do in Zamayón

Zamayón
Village
Zamayón is a municipality of about 192 inhabitants in the Tierra de Ledesma district, province of Salamanca, formed together with the settlements of El Plantío and Zamocino. Its houses are arranged on a small conical hill, at whose summit stands, now in ruins, the so-called Casa de los Vinculeros, and it is from this location that the village's name derives, a double diminutive of the Latin word cima. Reconquered by Ramiro II of León in the 10th century, together with Ledesma, Juzbado and Guadramiro, the town was granted in 1136 by Alfonso VII of León to the bishopric of Salamanca. It later gave its name to a commandery of the Order of Saint John that also included Casasola, La Izcalina, Juzbado and Valdelosa. In the mid-19th century it had 325 inhabitants.
The house of the Vinculeros
Curiosity
The houses are arranged on a small conical hill at whose summit the so-called house of the Vinculeros is falling into ruin. From that shape of the land comes the name: a double diminutive of cima that gave cimayo and, with a pejorative suffix, Zamayón.
