Sando
Village
Sando is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the Tierra de Ledesma district, with 111 inhabitants spread across a territory of 60 square kilometres that includes, besides Sando itself, the settlements of Cabeza de Diego Gómez, Fuentes de Sando and Iruelo del Camino, along with the depopulated hamlets of Tremedalejo, El Campillo and Villagarcía. Its founding dates back to the repopulation carried out by King Ramiro II of León in the 10th century, remaining from then on part of the Kingdom of León; it later became a lordship of the Order of the Augustinians. With the creation of the provinces in 1833 it was incorporated into that of Salamanca, within the Leonese region. The municipality also lies on the route that Saint Francis of Assisi travelled through Salamanca lands.

Curiosity
The municipality features within the itinerary that tradition attributes to the passage of Saint Francis of Assisi through the province of Salamanca on the way to Santiago; its municipal district brings together four inhabited settlements and three deserted places across more than sixty square kilometres.
