Garcirrey
Village
Garcirrey is a municipality in the Campo de Salamanca, or Campo Charro, district, with 52 inhabitants across 84 square kilometres, made up of several population entities including the depopulated Villarejo. It was called García Rey, a name pointing to a founding in the time of the Leonese king García I, who reigned between 910 and 914. Once the Alfoz de Ledesma was created by Ferdinand II of León, the town was placed within it, as the head of one of the rodas into which the land of Ledesma was organised. With the creation of the present-day provinces in 1833, Garcirrey was placed within the province of Salamanca, within the Región Leonesa.
