Villasdardo
Village
Villasdardo is a municipality in the Tierra de Ledesma, in the province of Salamanca, with only 22 inhabitants across 21.54 km², one of the least populated in the province despite being well served by road. Its name comes from medieval Leonese: it is recorded as Villares Sordo in the 13th century and as Villares Dardo in the 15th, from which the current name derives, with 'villares' meaning villages or houses. Founded by the Leonese kings in the early Middle Ages, in the 16th century it was the lordship of Fernán Álvarez Abarca, a royal physician. It preserves the Casa del Moro dolmen, with remains of its chamber and corridor attesting to human presence since prehistoric times, the Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción church, and old springs called antanas.
