Galisancho
Village
Galisancho is a municipality in the Salamancan comarca of Tierra de Alba, in Castilla y León, whose municipal area divides its a little over 300 inhabitants between the village itself and the hamlets of Carmeldo, Cártala, Santa Inés and Santa Teresa. It was born as Galind Sancholo during the medieval Leonese resettlement, within the cuarto de Cantalberque of the jurisdiction of Alba de Tormes, and is already documented as Galinsancho by 1220. In the mid-19th century it barely had a hundred residents; in the 1950s the National Institute of Colonisation built the villages of Santa Teresa and Santa Inés next to it, which came to double its population to the 785 inhabitants of 1990, a figure that has since kept falling through emigration.
