Anaya de Alba
Village
Anaya de Alba, in the Salamancan comarca of Tierra de Alba, brings together about 190 inhabitants spread between Anaya itself and the hamlets of Galindo Béjar, Herrezuelo, Narrillos and Sambellín. Its name may come from the Arabic an-nahya, stagnant water, although a Basque origin, hermano, brother, has also been proposed, or the Arabic word al-nahiya, road, after the causeway that linked Alba de Tormes and Piedrahíta and passed through the village. It sits on the foothills of the Sistema Central, on the Sierra de Ventosa, with the hill of Ahijón Chico, covered in holm oak woods, as the highest point of the municipal area, at 942 metres. It is crossed by the Trampales stream, which rises in Horcajo Medianero and flows into the Tormes at Éjeme. The climate is continental Mediterranean, with cold winters and mild summers.
