What to see and do in Sequeros

Sequeros
Village
Sequeros is a town of around 232 inhabitants and barely 6.3 square kilometres, in the Salmantine Sierra de Francia. It was born with the repopulation that the Leonese kings carried into the sierra in the Middle Ages, within the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar created by Alfonso IX in 1213; in 1756 Ferdinand VI raised it to the rank of town, and it was the seat of a judicial district until its disappearance in 1968. According to legend, Juana Hernández, the holy girl of Sequeros, announced before dying around 1424 that an image of the Virgin would appear on the Peña de Francia, found in 1434 by Simón Vela; the remains of both are kept in the church of Santa María del Robledo. Through the village runs the route of the asentadero and the forest of mirrors, which links San Martín del Castañar, Sequeros and Las Casas del Conde.
The church of the Virgen del Robledo
Monument
Declared a monument on 25 August 1993, it is the main church of a town that has been a historic ensemble since 1 July 2004 and which also preserves the hermitage of El Humilladero, protected on 16 September of that same year.
The holy maiden of Sequeros
Curiosity
Juana Hernández, the holy maiden, announced before dying around 1424 that an image of the Virgin would appear on the Peña de Francia, just as happened ten years later. Her remains rest alongside those of Simón Vela in the church of El Robledo.
