What to see and do in Monforte de la Sierra

Monforte de la Sierra
Village
Monforte de la Sierra is one of the smallest municipalities in the Salamanca Sierra de Francia, with 50 inhabitants over 4.36 square kilometres. Founded during the medieval resettlement by the Leonese kings, it was included in 1213 in the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar, created by Alfonso IX of León; in the mid-19th century it had 494 inhabitants, a population that has been declining ever since. It is crossed by the Camino del Agua, a circular route of about nine kilometres that runs through the valley of the Milanos river starting from Mogarraz, passing through Monforte and returning to its starting point, dotted with contemporary artworks such as K'oa, by the Salamanca sculptor Miguel Poza, Serena, by Virginia Calvo, or the Cruz de Mingo, by Florencio Maíllo.
The tramoneras of Monforte
Monument
The houses preserve the traditional look of the Sierra de Francia, with timber-framed buildings and their typical tramoneras. Within 4.36 square kilometres some fifty people live, and the water path passes through its municipal district.
