What to see and do in Las Casas del Conde

Las Casas del Conde
Village
Las Casas del Conde is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the Sierra de Francia comarca, with 63 inhabitants according to the 2025 register and an area of barely 1.26 square kilometres, the smallest in the whole province. It was first called Las Casas del Sapo and later Villanueva de las Casas, before adopting its current name, which recalls that it soon passed under the jurisdiction of the counts of Miranda del Castañar. The village is divided into two quarters separated by a stream, and sits near the Francia river, amid woods of chestnut and oak. Its microclimate, warmer and rainier than the Spanish average, allows Mediterranean fruit trees such as orange and lemon trees to be grown, and several hiking routes run through its surroundings, linking it to San Martín del Castañar and Sequeros.
The smallest municipality in Salamanca
Curiosity
At 1.26 square kilometres it is the smallest municipal district in the province. Its name recalls the dependence on the Count of Miranda del Castañar, from which it freed itself in 1757, when the king granted it the title of town and the lands of its households.
