What to see and do in San Miguel del Robledo

San Miguel del Robledo
Village
San Miguel del Robledo is a municipality of 52 inhabitants in the comarca of the Sierra de Francia, in the province of Salamanca, near the sierra de las Quilamas, the río Francia and the pico Codorro. It was founded in the Middle Ages by the Leonese kings during the repopulation, under the name Arroyomuerto, and belonged to the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar after its creation by Alfonso IX in 1213; that popular name is kept among the villagers, even though the municipality officially began to be called San Miguel del Robledo in 1982. At that same time the villagers abandoned the old village, next to the hermitage, and moved to the riverside. Its church, under the invocation of San Miguel, gives the locality its name today.

Historical milestone
In 1982 the municipality changed its official name from Arroyomuerto to the present one, after the population moved from the surroundings of the hermitage to the riverside; the old name is still alive in the speech of the comarca.
