What to see and do in Cereceda de la Sierra

Cereceda de la Sierra
Village
Cereceda de la Sierra, in the comarca of the Sierra de Francia, province of Salamanca, at 981 m of altitude and 14 km from the Peña de Francia, where the sanctuary of its virgin stands; it has 55 inhabitants, nicknamed “cats”, after the Peña del Gato located next to the village's northern entrance. It was founded as part of the repopulation by Alfonso IX of León in the early 13th century, when it was made part of the concejo of Miranda del Castañar. It has gone from having three or four businesses to a single bar, which fills up in August and on long weekends; the restoration of old houses as summer homes today sustains much of its activity.
The cherry that gave the village its name
Food and drink
As its name indicates, the cherry is the characteristic crop of the municipal district, along with potatoes, strawberries and garden vegetables; cattle, goat and pig raising completed an economy much reduced by the emigration of recent decades.
