Cilleros de la Bastida
Village
Cilleros de la Bastida is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of the Sierra de Francia, within the sub-comarca of Las Quilamas and the judicial district of Ciudad Rodrigo. Its founding falls within the medieval repopulation by the Leonese kings, and in 1213 it was made part of the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar, created by Alfonso IX of León; in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca. It now has 21 inhabitants, against the 124 recorded in the mid-19th century. It celebrates the feast of San Juan, moved from 24 June to 24 August so that its emigrated children can attend, and that of Santa Lucía on 13 December. It is the birthplace of the essayist, screenwriter and novelist Agustín Sánchez Vidal.
The alfoz of Miranda
Historical milestone
The village was incorporated into the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar after its creation by Alfonso IX of León in 1213. Today, with twenty-one inhabitants, it celebrates San Juan in August instead of on 24 June, so that the sons of the village can attend.
