What to see and do in Pinedas

Pinedas
Village
Pinedas, in the comarca of the Sierra de Francia, province of Salamanca, lies between that sierra and the Sierra de Béjar, next to the río Alagón, where barbel, boga and trout are fished; it has 88 inhabitants. Its urban layout, of winding, narrow streets, reflects Arab influence, and it preserves the Callejita, a small tunnel connecting calle Larga with the main square. It was born around 1227 in the concejo of Montemayor del Río, created by Alfonso IX of León. It was the Salmantine village hardest hit by the 1918 flu in proportion to its population, with 22 deaths, more than sixty per thousand inhabitants, against the 170 inhabitants it had in the mid-19th century.
