What to see and do in Madroñal

Madroñal
Village
Madroñal is a municipality of 128 inhabitants with a territory of barely 1.61 square kilometres, one of the smallest in the province of Salamanca, included in the Sierra de Francia comarca and in the judicial district of Béjar. It arose from the resettlement carried out by the Leonese kings in the Middle Ages and became part of the alfoz of Miranda del Castañar after its creation by Alfonso IX of León in 1213; with the provincial reorganisation of 1833 it was included in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region. In the mid-19th century it had 131 inhabitants, a figure similar to today's, although the 2000 census recorded 182, so that over the following two decades it lost around a quarter of its population.
