What to see and do in Nava de Francia

Nava de Francia
Village
Nava de Francia is a municipality of 116 inhabitants, alongside the hamlet of El Casarito, in the Salamanca Sierra de Francia. Its origins go back to prehistoric settlements: it holds the dolmen of La Morisca and, atop the hill, a circular mound ten metres across that may have been a megalithic burial site. Resettled in the time of Alfonso VI of León, it came under the jurisdiction of the town of Miranda del Castañar by grant of Alfonso IX, although a document of 1213 also linked it to the Cistercian monastery of San Pedro de la Espina, in Valladolid; the dispute between the two was resolved in 1296, when the monastery gave up ownership in exchange for 200 maravedís. In its festival of San Silvestre the perrero, the alguaciles and the mayordomos take part, singing the dawn song.

Nature
On the top of the hill a circular mound ten metres in diameter and half a metre high was located that could correspond to a megalithic tomb, next to the place called Casa del Tío Nava, which César Morán had already pointed out as a megalith.
