What to see and do in Aldeanueva de la Sierra

Aldeanueva de la Sierra
Village
Aldeanueva de la Sierra is a Salamanca hamlet of 88 inhabitants spread over 14.5 square kilometres, in the Sierra de Francia comarca, Las Quilamas sub-comarca. It arose in the early 13th century, when Alfonso IX of León created the concejo of Miranda del Castañar and included it within it, within the Kingdom of León; in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca. Set in a hollow surrounded by mountains of slate and quartzite, it is crossed by the Lumbralejo river, traditionally used for washing clothes, watering livestock and irrigation. Its climate is continentalised Mediterranean, with cool summers, averaging no more than 22 degrees, and cold winters, between 4 and 6 degrees.
The Sierra de las Quilamas
Curiosity
The municipality belongs to the sub-comarca of Las Quilamas, whose name comes from the legend of Queen Quilama, born of the battle that tradition places between Don Rodrigo and the Muslims in these mountains after the invasion of the year 711.
