What to see and do in Tejeda y Segoyuela

Tejeda y Segoyuela
Village
Tejeda y Segoyuela, with 97 inhabitants spread across six settlements — Los Arévalos, Monflorido, Puerto de la Calderilla, San Miguel de Asperones, Segoyuela de los Cornejos and Tejeda y Segoyuela — lies in the Sierra Mayor, already within the Salamancan Sierra de Francia. The place name Tejeda comes from the Latin taxus, yew, and means yew wood; Segoyuela is of Celtic origin, from segos plus the suffix briga, town. Documented as early as 1220 as Teyeda, it was founded during the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, integrated as Texeda y Segobia into the archpriesthood of the Valdobla. It preserves the ruins of a 15th-century castle, of slate with granite corners, and the convent of San Antonio, founded in 1561 by Alonso López de Texeda and Catalina de Robles.
