What to see and do in Fuentes de Béjar

Fuentes de Béjar
Village
Fuentes de Béjar, in the Salamancan Sierra de Béjar, owes its name to the numerous springs and fountains of its municipal area, located at 911 metres above sea level in a valley cut by the Sangusín stream, which rises in the elevated northeastern area and gives rise to the Sangusín river itself. Its springs have borne their own names since ancient times, such as those of Cebrián, cited in documents from the 17th and 18th centuries, Mari Muñoz, whose name refers to the medieval repopulation of the 12th-13th centuries, or Olalla, that is, the Eulalia spring. The earliest traces of settlement in the area date back to the Neolithic, around the 4th millennium BC, with polished stone axes found beside the Sangusín river. The municipality, made up of a single settlement and 14.47 km², today has about 215 inhabitants.
The source of the Sangusín River
Nature
The village's name alludes to the many springs and sources of the municipal district, some with their own names such as the Cebrián spring or that of Mari Muñoz, from which the river Sangusín rises; they are complemented by wells, rivulets and a small wetland called La Laguna.
