Santibáñez de Béjar
Village
Santibáñez de Béjar is a municipality in the Sierra de Béjar, in the province of Salamanca, which was called San Juan before settling on its current name; the surname "de Béjar" recalls its belonging to the former Community of Town and Land of Béjar. It sits beside the río Valvanera, about 4 kilometres from the Tormes, and its municipal area, with very uneven terrain, reaches 1,355 metres at the cerro del Berrueco, with Baroque and Roman remains. With about 448 inhabitants, it is a relatively industrialised village that preserves the Encina del Carrasco, one of the oldest trees in the province, and the Romanesque carving of its patroness, the Virgin of Valparaíso. In its municipal area morucha-breed beef cattle are raised and hams and cured meats are produced.

Nature
On the summits of the hill of El Berrueco Spanish ibex can be seen, and across the municipal district roam wild boar, hares and rabbits; on the bank of the river Valvanera, among poplars and white poplars, griffon vultures, golden orioles and, sometimes, the Spanish imperial eagle fly.
