What to see and do in Puebla de San Medel

Puebla de San Medel
Village
Puebla de San Medel is a municipality in the province of Salamanca of only 32 inhabitants split between two settlements —Puebla de San Medel itself and San Medel—, in the comarca of the Sierra de Béjar, surrounded by holm oaks, oaks and thyme scrub. It was called simply San Medel when it entered the Community of Town and Land of Béjar in 1209; after Béjar passed into the hands of the Zúñiga family in 1396, the community lost its vote in the Cortes in 1425 and came under the authority of Salamanca. In the mid-19th century it had 100 inhabitants, a figure that has kept falling since then. It celebrates its festival in honour of San Pedro Apóstol on the first weekend of July.

The municipality, which barely adds up to thirty inhabitants between La Puebla and the settlement of San Medel, holds its festivals on the first weekend of July in honour of San Pedro Apóstol; in the Middle Ages it was called simply San Medel.
