What to see and do in Valdelacasa

Valdelacasa
Village
Valdelacasa is a municipality of about 187 inhabitants located at the north-western end of what would be the Tierra de Béjar, precisely on the medieval boundary between the kingdoms of León and Castile, marked here by the Vía de la Plata road, the main communication route of the western peninsula since Roman times. After the division of the two kingdoms in 1157, it was repopulated by Castilians from lands around Ávila, which explains the differences still noted between the highlanders of Béjar and those of the Sierra de Francia. It belonged to the council of Béjar from 1209 and was part of the Community of Town and Land of Béjar, in the Cuarto del Campo, until 1833, when it became part of the province of Salamanca. It lost close to 40% of its residents between 2000 and 2019.
The annex of the church of Ledrada
Historical milestone
For centuries Valdelacasa and Peromingo were annexes of the parish of Ledrada, whose beneficed priest appears in 1234 among the founders of the chapter of clergy of the upper quarter of the land of Béjar, the religious institution of the comarca.
