Cantalpino
Village
Cantalpino is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in the comarca of the Tierra de Peñaranda, with about 815 inhabitants spread alongside the deserted villages of Villafuerte, Cotorrillo, Cuarto de la Asunción, La Estación, Revilla and Torre de Moncantar. Its name refers to the word campo, very common in the Salamancan place names of this frontier strip between the old kingdoms of León and Castile, where it has been read both as a memory of abandoned farmland and of old battlefields. The village already appears documented in 1116 as Campum de Pino, in a donation by Urraca I of León to the Order of Saint John. Its residents bought the title of villa from Philip IV in 1628, and its 16th-century church of San Pedro Apóstol is declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).

Monument
The present church, declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC), was erected in the sixteenth century. The original core of the village lay in the area known as Las Bodegas, between Calle de Vallesa, the square and the church itself.

The households bought from King Felipe IV the jurisdiction of the settlement, which obtained the title of town on 17 May 1628. Earlier, in 1116, Urraca I of León had donated it to the Order of Saint John under the name of Campum de Pino.
