What to see and do in Cabezabellosa de la Calzada

Cabezabellosa de la Calzada
Village
Cabezabellosa de la Calzada is a municipality in the Salamanca comarca of La Armuña, with 73 inhabitants over 8.5 square kilometres; its name alludes to a hill with abundant vegetation —metaphorically compared to the hair on a head— and to its location on the old causeway that linked Salamanca with Medina del Campo. Founded by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, it was placed within the quarter of Villoria in the jurisdiction of Salamanca, and in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca within the Leonese Region; in the mid-19th century it had 121 inhabitants. In medieval documentation it appears as Cabeçavellosa. Its church is dedicated to the Assumption.
Hairy head beside the causeway
Curiosity
The name compares the rise to a head and its scrub to the hair covering it, a hair metaphor frequent in peninsular place names; the suffix «de la Calzada» alludes to the old road that linked Salamanca with Medina del Campo.
