Villar de Argañán
Village
Villar de Argañán is a municipality of about 95 inhabitants in the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo, in Salamanca, which groups together the settlements of Villar, Hurtada, Martillán and Sexmiro within the Campo de Argañán, which gives it its name. It was founded during the Leonese resettlement of the late 12th or early 13th century, and until the 1950s the town was called Villar de Puerco. In Hurtada a dolmen is preserved in which prehistoric ornamental objects were found, evidence of a human presence long before the medieval founding. In the settlement of Villar there is a parish church under the patronage of San Juan Bautista.
