La Atalaya
Village
La Atalaya is a municipality in the province of Salamanca, in Castile and León, part of the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo and the sub-comarca of Los Agadones, with an area of 24.13 km² and 102 inhabitants. Its founding dates back to the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, placed within the Campo de Agadones of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo after its creation by Fernando II of León in the 12th century. Perched on a hill of Los Agadones, it preserves a notable number of slate houses built in the old style, and at the top of the village it has a regulation fronton court. Its patronal fiesta is San Miguel Arcángel, on 8 May; San Isidro is also celebrated, on 15 May, and Nuestra Señora del Rosario, on the first Sunday of October, as well as the Peña San Miguel festivity, in August since 1991.
