Agallas
Village
Agallas is a municipality and village in the province of Salamanca, in Castile and León, part of the comarca of Ciudad Rodrigo and the sub-comarca of Los Agadones. Its municipal area, of 44.61 km², comprises the hamlet and the annex of Vegas de Domingo Rey and has 122 inhabitants. The earliest remains of settlement are the Ídolo de Agallas, an anthropomorphic figure carved in slate from the Bronze Age, and a Roman votive altar from the 1st century AD found in 1985, with the dedication from Primigenio to Favilio. The present-day Agallas, however, arises from the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, placed within the Campo de Agadones of the diocese of Ciudad Rodrigo after its creation by Fernando II of León in the 12th century. From the 17th century a stone dated 1612 is preserved, bearing a cross recalling the Order of Santiago.
