What to see and do in Villalba de los Llanos

Villalba de los Llanos
Village
Villalba de los Llanos is a municipality in Salamanca province, in the Campo Charro district, with 107 inhabitants spread between Villalba itself and the settlements of Cuarto de Arriba, Cuarto del Medio, Maza de San Pedro, Monte Abajo, Monte Alto and Negrillos. It was called Garcivelasco until the 15th century. It lives off cattle farming of the morucha breed, fighting bulls — the Monte Abajo estate raises the herd of Juan Luis Fraile — and Iberian pigs; its houses, one or two storeys with tiled roofs, cluster around the church. In the Romanesque church of la Asunción was buried María Rodríguez de Monroy, known as María la Brava, a central figure in the war of the Bandos de Salamanca.
Tomb of María Rodríguez de Monroy
Monument
The church of La Asunción, on the Plaza del Toral, holds the tomb of María Rodríguez de Monroy with the coat of arms of the Enríquez, the lineage that gave the village its name when Enrique Enríquez acquired it in the fifteenth century.
