Pelabravo
Village
Pelabravo is a municipality in Salamanca province of 1,427 inhabitants, in the Campo de Salamanca or Campo Charro district, whose district also brings together the settlements of Naharros del Río and Nuevo Naharros. It was founded in the Middle Ages by a settler called Pelay Bravo by order of the kings of León, in the quarter of Peña del Rey of the jurisdiction of Salamanca; in 1833 it passed to the province of Salamanca. Near Naharros del Río stood the castle of the Torre Mocha, a fortification with rubble-and-mortar walls from the Kingdom of León dating to the 12th-13th centuries and a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection), destroyed in October 2025 by the farmer who had bought the plot containing its remains. The church of San Juan Bautista, with a Greek-cross plan, preserves a freestanding bell-gable and an episcopal coat of arms of Salamanca on its façade.
