Calvarrasa de Abajo
Village
Calvarrasa de Abajo is a municipality in Salamanca province, in the Campo de Salamanca, whose district brings together, besides the main settlement, those of Amatos, El Salinar, Los Arenales and Valdecarretas. Founded by the kings of León in the Middle Ages, it belonged to the quarter of Peña del Rey of the jurisdiction of Salamanca and was then called Calvarrasa Danaya. Its parish church of San Pedro was built between the late 16th century and the early 17th. In 2012, behind the church, Sálvame square was inaugurated, in homage to the television programme of the same name. It now has around 1,240 inhabitants.
