What to see and do in Aldeatejada

Aldeatejada
Village
Aldeatejada is a town of about 2,700 inhabitants located six kilometres from Salamanca, in the Campo Charro district. It is first documented as Aldea Teiada on 20 April 1186, in a sale of an orchard and vineyard, and the name later evolved through the forms Aldea Tellada, recorded in documents of 1210 and 1213, before settling into the current Aldeatejada. In November 1543 it hosted Philip II and María Manuela of Portugal for several days; they married two days later in the city of Salamanca. In 1626 the flooding of the Tormes, known as the San Policarpo Flood, destroyed three houses in the town, which is also crossed by the Cañada Real de la Plata.
The San Policarpo flood
Historical milestone
The great Tormes flood of 1626, known as the flood of San Policarpo, damaged the church of Aldeatejada and brought down three houses in the village, which eighty years earlier had lodged Felipe II before his wedding in Salamanca.
