Canillas de Abajo
Village
Canillas de Abajo is a municipality in the Campo de Salamanca district, 27 kilometres from the provincial capital, whose municipal area brings together five settlements — Canillas de Abajo, Canillejas, Navas de Quejigal, Quejigal and Sagos — in a flat landscape watered by the Seco river. It arose from the medieval resettlement by the kings of León, integrated into the Baños quarter of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, when it was called Caniellas de Pero Nunno; by the 13th century its present-day hamlets already existed, then named Quexigal, Las Navas and Sabugo. It preserves the parish church of San Vicente Mártir and the palace of the Marquis of Canillas. It has 64 inhabitants.
