What to see and do in La Puebla de Valdavia

La Puebla de Valdavia
Village
La Puebla de Valdavia is a village in Palencia of about eighty inhabitants - it had 357 in 1842 - at 940 metres above sea level, in the comarca of Vega-Valdavia, watered by the river Valdavia, a tributary of the Pisuerga. It arose at the foot of the Camino Real de la Valdavia, the pilgrim route that linked San Vicente de la Barquera with Carrión de los Condes and lends its name to its main street; its name recalls the resettlement of lands reclaimed from the Arabs in the 9th and 10th centuries. Its parish church, dedicated to Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, patroness of the town, has a Gothic three-naved apse and holds a carving of the Virgin and Child attributed to Inocencio Berruguete. It also has an ethnography museum and two hermitages, San Roque and del Carmen.
