Tabanera de Valdavia
Village
Tabanera de Valdavia is a hamlet in the province of Palencia, situated at 983 metres above sea level, amid pine and oak woods, on the boundary between the premontane zone of Palencia and the comarca of Vega-Valdavia, already within the Cantabrian Mountains. Documented since 1219, when the Santiago-order monastery of Santa Eufemia de Cozuelos received an estate within its boundaries, it now has some twenty inhabitants, against 197 in the mid-19th century. It preserves the church of Santiago Apóstol, celebrates it on 25 July, and goes on pilgrimage up to the hermitage of the Virgen de Rabanillo, at 1,037 metres, on the Sunday following the feast of the Virgen del Valle.
