Villamartín de Campos
Village
Villamartín de Campos is a village of about 170 inhabitants located twelve kilometres from Palencia, in the southwest of Tierra de Campos, one of the so-called Cinco Villas de la laguna de La Nava. Its name recalls the Martín family, who in the 14th century founded the village together with their main houses, church, farms and granary, after acquiring lands from the Counts of Osorno; over time its church was raised to parish status and the village came to be an inquisitorial centre of the region. It includes the hamlet of Revilla de Campos, whose lordship in 1352 belonged to Alfonso Martínez, a descendant of the founders. It preserves the palace of the Martín family, with a Rococo façade, and hosts the headquarters of the Castile and León horseball team.
