Pedraza de Campos
Village
Pedraza de Campos is a village in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in the province of Palencia, 19 kilometres from the capital and at 750 metres of altitude, on the boundary between Tierra de Campos and the alcores hills; it has around 73 inhabitants, against the 728 recorded by Madoz in the mid-19th century. In 1112 its royal properties passed to the San Antolín hospital, an institution to which it remained tied despite Philip II's attempt to sell the town in the late 16th century, thwarted by the Palencia Cabildo. It preserves traditional adobe and brick architecture, with dovecotes dotting its surroundings, and its San Cipriano church, from the 16th century and with three naves, holds altarpieces from the 16th and 18th centuries. At its festivities, on 3 and 4 May, there is dancing in procession before the Christ.
