Grijota
Village
Grijota is a municipality in the province of Palencia, in the Tierra de Campos comarca, five kilometres from the provincial capital, with around 2,840 inhabitants and undergoing strong residential growth. It preserves a lock on the Canal de Castilla, a stonework complex that once let grain barges overcome the canal's changes in level and which today operates mechanically, and the tower of the church of Santa Cruz, laid out in 1591 by the Cantabrian master stonemason Juan de la Cuesta. The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, from the late 13th century, holds the carved figure of the Cristo de la Salud, from the 14th century. The Camino Lebaniego Castellano runs through the municipality, and among its notable residents was the member of parliament Abilio Calderón (1867-1939).
