Támara de Campos
Village
Támara de Campos is a town in the natural region of Tierra de Campos, in the province of Palencia, born of the 10th-century resettlement and which came to be one of the Nueve Villas de Campos, with a federated government that met in assembly in Támara itself. In the 12th-13th centuries the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem founded a pilgrims' hospital here, favoured by the passage of the Camino de Santiago. Today it has about seventy inhabitants and is declared a Conjunto Histórico Artístico (Historic Site, a Spanish heritage-protection designation for a whole urban or architectural ensemble), with remains of a medieval wall, the Gothic church of San Hipólito el Real, from the 14th century, and the old monastery of San Miguel. It is the birthplace of Sinesio Delgado, founder of the SGAE. On 3 May, the Feast of the Cross documented since 1502, eight dancers perform a paloteo accompanied by the Chiborra.
