Meneses de Campos
Village
Meneses de Campos is a village in the Tierra de Campos comarca, in the province of Palencia, with around 110 inhabitants, repopulated between the 10th and 11th centuries by families who came from the Mena valley, in the north of Burgos, who settled on the banks of the río Anguijón and gave rise to the so-called seven villages: Puebla de Meneses, Meneses, Palacios de Meneses, Arroyo Meneses, San Cebrián de Meneses, Villalla and Villalimbierno. It stands on the Tierra de Campos plain, at around 750 metres above sea level, in a landscape that in autumn turns to brown earth and grey sky and in summer turns golden. Its legend inspired Lope de Vega's comedy Los Tellos de Meneses, and its patron saint is the Virgen del Tovar.
