What to see and do in Villodre

Villodre
Village
Villodre is a hamlet in the province of Palencia, in the El Cerrato comarca, situated at 770 metres of altitude between Melgar de Yuso and Astudillo, 34 kilometres from the capital, with barely twenty inhabitants — compared with 156 in the 19th century — and an economy based on cereals and pulses. Already documented under its current name in 1345, in the 18th century it was a royal-tenure town of the Nuevas Villas de Palencia district, and from the 15th century it preserves a tower and a palace of the manorial house of the Vega. Its church, of Romanesque origin though mostly rebuilt in the 15th century, is dedicated to San Román Abad and holds an 18th-century Rococo main altarpiece along with medieval tombs and recumbent statues.
