Villalaco
Village
Villalaco is a hamlet in the district of El Cerrato, in the province of Palencia, situated in the valley of the Pisuerga river, between Cordovilla la Real and Astudillo, opposite Valbuena de Pisuerga; it has about sixty-five inhabitants, down from the 375 it had in the mid-19th century. The river weir, known as the presa de Villalaco, is a popular summer bathing spot for many people from Palencia, and from it rises the Canal de Villalaco, which irrigates the fields as far as Dueñas. The village preserves the church of Santa Eufemia, a jurisdictional pillory in the main square and a quarter of dug-out cellars. On 16 September, in honour of Santa Eufemia, a procession sets out from the church to the hermitage of the Virgen de Valderroblejo, accompanied by dancers and the music of the dulzaina and tabor.
