Castrillo de Don Juan
Village
Castrillo de Don Juan is a village of about 180 inhabitants in the southeast of the Cerrato district, in the province of Palencia, and the only one in the province through which the Esgueva river flows. It took its name from Juan Delgadillo, lord of the place after 1548. It preserves the church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, from the mid-16th century, with the main altar recently restored, and the remains of the wall of the former palace of the Count of Castrillo y Orgaz, which disappeared in 1977. Its main festivals are those of the Niño, on January 2, and San Antonio de Padua, on June 13, with mass and a procession carrying the images on litters and a float; San Isidro is also celebrated on May 15, along with festivals in August and the gastronomic festivals of the grape harvest and the pig slaughter.
