What to see and do in Jaramillo de la Fuente

Jaramillo de la Fuente
Village
Jaramillo de la Fuente is a hamlet in the Sierra de la Demanda, in the province of Burgos, which in the 1591 census of neighbourhoods of the Crown of Castile was called Xaramillo de la Fuente; in the mid-19th century it had 212 inhabitants, against 45 today. It has a 12th-century Romanesque church dedicated to the Assumption; in front of it, on the site of an old elm brought down by a storm, the tree of the province of Burgos was planted, with soil from all its villages. It also preserves the pillory where people used to be executed and a recently restored horse-shoeing frame. On the outskirts, next to the spring that gives the village its name, there is a mill with old wheels for grinding grain, in an area rich in fossils.
The Romanesque church of Jaramillo
Monument
The parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción is a twelfth-century Romanesque church, the greatest piece of a hamlet on the flank of the Demanda that preserves almost intact its scale and its stone built fabric.
The pillory and the horseshoeing frame
Monument
Opposite the church two pieces of vanished rural furniture are preserved: the justice pillar, from when sentences were carried out in public, and the shoeing frame, restored, where the draught animals were held.
