Villatuelda
Village
Villatuelda is a hamlet of 41 inhabitants in the Esgueva valley, near Roa and Aranda de Duero, founded in the mid-10th century by a Visigothic foramontano named Théudila, whose name gave rise to Villa Theodila and, later, Villatuelda. It belonged to the crown and to various lords until it fell under the jurisdiction of the Duchy of Medinaceli from the 16th century until Mendizábal's disentailment; in the mid-19th century it had 95 inhabitants. Local tradition records several miracles attributed to San Pedro Regalado involving villagers in the 16th and 17th centuries. It preserves a Roman fountain and bridge, and a Romanesque church transitional to Gothic, with a bell-gable and two circular dovecotes.
