Torresandino
Village
Torresandino is a town in the province of Burgos (Castile and León), in the La Ribera comarca, in the valley of the Esgueva river, between Roa de Duero and Aranda de Duero. In the late Middle Ages it was the administrative head of its surroundings, with a council whose jurisdiction extended over two further villages, as recorded in the Becerro de las Behetrías de Castilla of 1351. With 565 inhabitants, it lives off agriculture and, to a lesser extent, construction, and keeps tuta as a popular game. Its church of San Martín holds a Gothic carving of Nuestra Señora de los Valles from the late 13th century; the monastery of the same name, founded that century and rebuilt in Gothic style in the 14th, today lies in ruins and appears on the Lista Roja del Patrimonio of Hispania Nostra (Hispania Nostra's list of heritage at risk).
