Oquillas
Village
Oquillas is a hamlet in the province of Burgos (Castile and León), in the La Ribera comarca, situated at an altitude of 914 metres in the valley of its river, on a gentle rise toward the Esgueva valley. With 52 inhabitants, it preserves the church of San Cipriano, a fine example of Esgueva Romanesque, with an apse of interesting corbels. A restored wine press now houses an ethnographic museum that keeps the original vat, channel, great beam and screw, along with grape-harvesting tools and farm implements. On the Saturday closest to 16 June the feast of the Santo Cristo de Reveche is celebrated, renewing the twinning with the neighbouring village of Villalbilla de Gumiel, and on 16 September the feast of San Cipriano, the village's patron saint.
