Cilleruelo de Arriba
Village
Cilleruelo de Arriba is a hamlet in the Arlanza district, in the province of Burgos, with 52 inhabitants, part of the La Yecla association of municipalities. Its founding is placed between the years 900 and 920, when the Reconquista, advancing from north to south, reached the Arlanza after reaching Burgos in 884; the resettlers, families who left the rear lines to settle on the frontier, formed the town council under a captain called don Fernando, of whom only the name is known. The first documentary reference to the village appears in 1092, in the Cartulary of the Monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza, when it had already existed for almost two centuries. It celebrates its patron saints San Quirico and Santa Julita on 16 June, with street festivities and a procession, and Santa María de la Torre on 8 September.
