Fuentespina
Village
Fuentespina is a municipality in the Burgos comarca of the Ribera del Duero, on flat ground next to Aranda de Duero, with 833 inhabitants; by the mid-19th century it had 607. Its church of San Miguel preserves late-medieval structures beneath major 17th-century renovations. At a crossroads in the village stands a wayside cross raised in 1607 by the Cofradía de la Vera Cruz to a design by Hernando de Palacios: a column, now of Solomonic (twisted) form, resting on three steps, supports a cross bearing the crucified Christ on one face and the Immaculate Conception on the other, beneath a four-pillared canopy. Restored in 1974, it was then moved to the other side of the road to improve its visibility.
